Bayelsa alleges plot to destabilise state by APC

Bayelsa State Government has alleged that there were plans by the state chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, to instigate youths to embark on a violent street protest today in Yenagoa, the state capital.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Dr. Boma Spero-Jack, said that part of the plan was for the youths to violently disrupt business activities and cause a breakdown of peace and order in the state capital.

He warned youths in the state not to be used, as the state government would hold them responsible for any death, injury or act of lawlessness that the planned protest would result to, adding that the various security agencies have been put on full alert to deal decisively with any acts of violence, no matter, who was involved.

He also called on Bayelsans to be vigilant, especially parents and guardians, to ensure that, their children and wards were not used to breach the existing peace in the state, stressing that, the state government will not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law on any group of youths, who may decide to take to the streets, under whatever guise.

Meanwhile, former Governor Timipre Sylva,  the governorship flag bearer of the APC, during the last governorship election and leader of the party in the state has distanced himself and the party from any plan to lead a mass protest in the state.

A statement by Mr. Doifie Buokoribo, Media Adviser to Chief  Sylva, yesterday, described the allegations as,” irresponsible, baseless and laughable” and challenged the Bayelsa State Government to provide any proof to support the alleged involvement of Sylva in the  plot.
