Arsene Wenger stunned Arsenal fans by admitting he is SCARED by his Premier League rivals’ summer spending.
The Gunners boss has brought in Swiss ace Granit Xhaka and Bolton’s Rob Holding but spent just £38.5million so far.
Yet frustrated supporters are crying out for a top striker and a centre-back.
Wenger said: “You look at the cheques that everybody signs and it’s quite scary. That’s what the Premier League is about at the moment.”
Even before a ball is kicked Wenger fears it will be a “big ask” to lift a first title since 2004.
When questioned about the club’s ambitions of another top-four finish, he added: “No matter what you do, it’s never enough.
“We know what we have to do, because we were second last year.
“It’s a big ask, because when you look at the Premier League, every club is hugely ambitious.”
Wenger was branded an “idiot” on social media by one furious Gooner who said: “If others are spending, he needs to shut his mouth.”
